Csobánka: Streams, Circular Trails and Cultural Heritage

Streams and habitats

The Dera-patak and its tributary, the Kovácsi-patak, wind through Csobánka for more than 2.5 kilometres, creating different habitats. Protected fish species, white-clawed crayfish, dragonflies and numerous bird species live along both waterways. This wildlife can also be found in the built-up area of the village. The streams are therefore a natural feature that runs through the settlement and offers a distinct way to orient yourself during your stay, alongside the individual routes.

Compare circular trails by length and elevation gain

The Szent-kúti ösvény is a six-kilometre circular trail with 220 metres of elevation gain and six signs along the route. It starts and finishes at the “Csobánkai templomok” sign, which stands in front of the Serbian Orthodox church. If you are comparing circular trails with shorter stated distances, the Oszoly-pihenő offers two other described options: the Oszoly-ösvény covers 2.25 kilometres and returns to the starting point, with 60 metres of elevation gain and nine signs. The Mackó-barlang ösvény is 3.9 kilometres long; this circular trail also starts and finishes at the Oszoly-pihenő. There are ten signs along it, and the elevation gain is 210 metres.

The figures provide different points of comparison: among these three circular trails, the Oszoly-ösvény is the shortest and has the lowest stated elevation gain. The Mackó-barlang ösvény is longer and has more elevation gain; the Szent-kúti ösvény combines its six-kilometre length with a starting point in front of the church. The Oszoly-pihenő, the starting point for the shorter circular trails, is accessible by car from Csobánka’s Fő tér. When choosing a route, you can therefore take both its layout and its starting point into account.

Routes starting from Margitliget

Two more trails begin in Margitliget and end at a sign about Csobánka’s churches. The Fehér sziklák ösvény is seven kilometres long and passes 21 signs. The route has a total of 300 metres of ascent and 210 metres of descent; there are also four viewpoints along the way. The Erdőszéli ösvény covers 5.5 kilometres, with 17 signs, 140 metres of ascent and 53 metres of descent.

Unlike the circular trails at the Oszoly-pihenő, these two routes start and finish in different places. To compare them, you can first consider their layout, then compare their length, elevation profile and number of signs. Of the two Margitliget routes, the Fehér sziklák ösvény is longer and has greater stated ascent and descent; its four viewpoints are another specific feature. The Erdőszéli ösvény has a shorter distance and lower stated elevation figures. This makes it possible to distinguish the two routes by their described characteristics.

Church and local history

The Serbian Orthodox church at Hősök tere 4 is protected as a national monument. It is a Baroque church dating from 1746. Its location is also a reference point for the Szent-kúti ösvény: the trail’s starting and finishing sign stands in front of the church. This means the circular trail brings a specific route detail and an important local building together at the same starting point. The church and the stream landscape complement the routes as distinct natural and cultural themes, without requiring you to classify the trails by name alone.
