History and Culture

The history of Christes can be traced back to 833 in documentary records; at that time, the place was first recorded as “Christaneshusun.” The historic Christus-Born spring was associated with healing powers. The first pilgrimage to it began in 1425, and a three-nave late Gothic basilica was built in 1443. The former pilgrimage church on the Linden Hill remains designated as a noteworthy local point of interest.
