Nature and trails
In addition to the local nature reserve and the aquatic landscapes, Breitungen has a modern outdoor swimming pool. The town is connected to the Werra Valley long-distance cycle route. Signposted hiking trails lead through forest paths and offer views across the Werra Valley and the Thuringian Forest.

Culture, history and arrival
Breitungen has more than 1,075 years of documented history; the oldest written reference dates from 933. The local heritage includes a Renaissance castle with an activity museum, a Romanesque basilica consecrated in 1112, and a historic market square. By car, you can reach Breitungen via the B19; the market square in the town center is designated as an arrival point. The town can also be reached by the Südthüringenbahn railway from Eisenach or Meiningen.
