Bermbach
Accommodation in Bermbach
Bermbach combines a local charcoal-burning tradition with insights into the village’s history and opportunities for excursions in the surrounding area. This lets you decide whether to focus your stay mainly on local sights or also include further excursions.
Charcoal-Burning Tradition and Local History
The annual charcoal kiln festival keeps Bermbach’s charcoal-burning tradition alive. It thus provides a special connection to the history of the village. If you are interested in regional traditions, you can complement this connection with another historical highlight: the local history museum is housed in a building that formerly accommodated the village school on the ground floor and the church upstairs.
The two places tell Bermbach’s story in different ways. The charcoal kiln festival is linked to the charcoal-burning tradition, while the former school and church building reveals the house’s past functions. Together, these details give your trip planning a local focus without requiring you to combine different historical subjects.
Outdoor Swimming Pool and Nearby Winter and Hiking Options
On the outskirts of the Bermbach district, there is a small outdoor swimming pool with a non-swimmer pool, a swimmer pool and a sunbathing lawn. The pools distinguish the swimming area from the non-swimmer area; the lawn is another part of the facility. If the outdoor pool is part of your plans, check its current operating status before your visit.
The Knüllfeld ski and hiking area, with its ski lift, is located near Bermbach. The area is therefore a separate option for winter and hiking plans nearby, rather than a feature of Bermbach itself. If the lift is important to your travel plans, check its current operating status in advance.
Excursions in the Wider Destination of Steinbach-Hallenberg
Steinbach-Hallenberg also offers attractions for visitors interested in culture. At the Metalworking Museum, you can visit workshops preserved in their original condition and learn how people used to work. The historic workshops include a nail forge, a corkscrew workshop and a file-making shop. The permanent exhibition “Ons Schdaaimicher,” which opened in January 2022, offers insights into the way of life, language development and club life of the people of Steinbach-Hallenberg.
From April to October, blacksmithing demonstrations take place at the Metalworking Museum on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you would like to include a demonstration in your stay, check the dates before you travel. This makes it easier to coordinate your museum visit with other excursions in Steinbach-Hallenberg.
A walk up to Hallenburg offers views of the town and surrounding mountains. You may need to collect the key to the tower from the Tourist Information Office. The Tourist Information Office is centrally located in the town center of Steinbach-Hallenberg, directly opposite the Metalworking Museum. You can therefore consider these two stops together when planning; however, please note that collecting the key may be required to access the tower.
For another excursion, the Unterlautenberg wildlife enclosure is located in the Unterschönau district. You can see red deer, fallow deer, mouflons and goats there; an approximately 3 km circular trail runs along the enclosure.
During the summer holidays, horse-drawn carriage rides to Knüllfeld and back to the town center are regularly offered in Steinbach-Hallenberg in partnership with Fuhrbetrieb Falk Nattermann. The ride offers views down into the valley and of the surrounding mountains. Dates are published in the events calendar; check them in advance if you would like to plan for this seasonal ride.
