Hiking Trails and Landscape
The Flößgraben in Frankenhain is a historic technical monument and a very popular hiking trail. The Lütsche-Flößgraben is a separate hiking destination in the surrounding area. There, the trail passes through a 38-metre-long tunnel. The similar-sounding names refer to two different trails; the 38-metre-long tunnel is part of the Lütsche-Flößgraben.
The Sandbach Valley near Frankenhain is also a popular trail for long walks. The trail runs along the edge of the forest, right beside the Sandbach stream; the Sandbach Valley flows into the LĂĽtsche Valley. The ThĂĽringer Waldrandroute runs along the edge of the forest and offers views of the grazing mountain meadows of the Rumpel, the cemetery chapel in Frankenhain, the Reinsberge near Plaue and the area towards Elgersburg. This offers a choice of different landscapes: the Sandbach stream beside the trail in the Sandbach Valley, or the views along the Waldrandroute. Cultural Sites in Frankenhain and the Surrounding Area
The Heimatstube Frankenhain conveys the atmosphere of a bygone era. The Baroque Church of St. Leonhardi was built between 1719 and 1722 and is dedicated to Saint Leonhard, the Frankish patron saint. Its interior is splendid and richly furnished. The war memorial stands at the Kirchberg dry-grassland habitat in Frankenhain. These three places offer different points of interest: local history, Baroque architecture and a monument at a specific natural site.
The Historic Sawmill, restored in 2006/07, is located in the surrounding area of Frankenhain. At museum demonstrations, visitors are shown how a saw frame powered by a system of drive shafts cuts logs into boards and beams. This offers insight into a specific work process: the power transmission drives the saw frame, which processes the wood into boards and beams.

Frankenhain is a state-recognised health resort. The tourist information office is in the municipal building in the town centre. This provides a specific central point of reference for getting around, while some hiking trails are in Frankenhain and others in the surrounding area.
