Culture and History
The present-day St. Aegidien Church was built within 17 months and consecrated on 29 October 1741.
At the Bleiberg mining town, visitors learn how the inhabitants of a medieval mining settlement lived and worked in the 13th and 14th centuries. The main attractions comprise a complex of houses built on the basis of archaeological excavations at the Treppenhauer. The medieval craft and food-related activities there include baking bread, making mead and herbal tea, and cooking over an open fire.
The Sculpture Trail is an art tour through Frankenberg’s old town. It comprises 20 works that commemorate historical events and important figures from the town.
Paths and Nature
The Forest Adventure Trail is a circular route around four kilometres long on easily walkable forest paths and takes approximately two hours.
The Harrasfelsen–Mittweida section of the Zschopau Valley Trail is part of Frankenberg’s network of paths and runs along the Zschopau through a medieval mining region.
The section of the Sachsenburg–Hainichen Trail up to the turn-off to Rossauer Forest is also part of Frankenberg’s network of paths and is marked in red.
Travel and Information
Frankenberg has rail connections on the Hainichen–Chemnitz route. Road access is via the B180, B169 and A4 motorways. Bus route 675 connects Frankenberg/Saxony and Mittweida with Sachsenburg/Gh Reinhardt for the Sachsenburg–Hainichen route.
