Winter and Wildlife Park

The wildlife park has a 4 km circular trail through woodland and meadowland that is suitable for wheelchairs. It is open year-round from sunrise until dusk; admission is free.

Hiking and Cycling

Bad Marienberg has eight hiking and walking trails ranging from 5 km to 18 km in length. Three Nordic walking circular routes start at the large wildlife park car park. In addition, more than 200 km of signposted and inspected cycling routes are available around Bad Marienberg. The cycling tours mainly follow quiet cycle and hiking paths around Bad Marienberg and are accompanied by two local guides.

Nature and Geology

Bacher Lay is a nature reserve between Bad Marienberg and Nisterau through which the Schwarze Nister flows. It provides a habitat for rare animal and plant species and is located 2 km on foot from the center of Bad Marienberg.

The Basalt Park is a former quarry and open-air museum. Documented basalt mining methods, geological processes, and various basalt formations can be seen there, including five- and six-sided columns.

Culture and Medicinal Plants

The Heimatstuben Bad Marienberg presents changing exhibitions on the local landscape, history, customs, and economy, as well as the Westerwald’s “Wäller” identity.

The Apothecary Garden is laid out in the style of a traditional monastery garden and contains more than 100 plants. The effects and uses of more than 120 medicinal plants are explained on 18 information boards. Guided tours of the Apothecary Garden can be booked through the Tourist Information upon request.

Getting There

Travel to Bad Marienberg is described as taking an ICE train to Montabaur, followed by a bus journey to the Bad Marienberg (Westerwald) Neuer Weg stop. This stop is approximately 150 m from the main route of the WesterwaldSteig.
