Wahlrod: Hotels and Accommodations

The Puderbacher Land circular tour follows agricultural and forest paths and passes through the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. At least a trekking bike is required for the route.

Cycling and Nature

The Puderbacher Land circular tour also includes a nature trail in Dürrholz-Daufenbach, former quartzite quarries that were flooded to create ponds, and a village museum in Urbach. The museum can be visited by prior appointment.

Hiking

A route in the surrounding area passes the Sängerhütte, which provides hikers with shelter in the rain. A published hiking route runs from Wahlrod to the Beilstein natural monument.

There are tables and benches at the foot of the Beilstein. Another hiking route from Höchstenbach passes the Beilstein near Wahlrod and the quartzite pond in the Berod Forest.

Culture and History

The first documentary mention of Wahlrod dates from 1249: at that time, the village was listed as “Waldenrode” in connection with a donation to Herchingen Abbey. The Protestant parish church stands on Kölner Straße; it is a protected hall church built in 1851 in the Neo-Romanesque style. The churchyard contains gravestones dating from the 17th to the 19th century.

The Marzau Mill is considered one of the village’s prominent features. Wahlrod is also home to a 500-year-old Luther oak.

Landscape

The Beilstein in Wahlrod is a basalt cone and is protected as a natural monument.
