Steiningen: Hotels and Accommodation

Culture and History

The Allscheid Chapel between Steiningen and Darscheid is considered the last surviving building of the abandoned village of Allscheid. At the same time, it commemorates the emigration in the mid-19th century. In memory of Allscheid, a new chapel was built at a more distant location in 1876.

The St. Mauritius Chapel in Steiningen is regarded as a chapel whose altar interior preserves relics of Saint Mauritius.

Paths and Hikes

The network of paths in Mehren is connected to the paths in the surrounding villages, the routes of the Eifelverein, and the Vulkaneifel trails. This also makes longer-distance hikes possible.

The hiking trails around Mehren range from approximately 2 to 4 kilometres up to around 15 kilometres. They lead through forests, meadows, and agricultural land.

The HeimatSpur Täler- und Höhenweg is considered a moderately difficult hike covering 14.6 kilometres. The route is specified as taking four hours and runs through Steiningen.

Cycling Tours

The “tough & demanding” road cycling tour passes through Steiningen and covers just under 120 kilometres with almost 1,900 metres of elevation gain. The Vulkaneifel-Challenge road cycling route also passes through Steiningen, specifically between Mehren and Steineberg.

Barbecue Hut

Steiningen’s barbecue hut has toilets. The intended use includes staying in the hut and the forecourt, as well as using the toilets during the specified period.

Barbecuing is permitted exclusively at the designated fire pit.
