Utzerath: Hotels and Accommodations

Utzerath lies in a volcanic landscape covered by mixed woodland. In the Utzerath-Schönbach area, the designated Valleys and Heights Trail follows a circular route of around 15 kilometers; connecting paths make it possible to shorten or extend the route.

Nature

The mountain biking and hiking trail network extends across the Utzerath area. A shelter and benches stand at a crossroads. On the HeimatSpur Valleys and Heights Trail, the Kreuzberg is a highlight. The Eifelblick viewpoint along the trail offers far-reaching views across the volcanic Eifel. Goats are kept on the slopes of the Kreuzberg from Easter to October as part of a grazing concept.

The trail passes through longer stretches of woodland, making it more pleasant to walk in hot weather. It also includes distant views and valleys along small streams. Horse riding is promoted as a nature experience for visitors to the Eifel.

At the edge of the forest there is a barbecue shelter with benches, parking spaces, a tent and a camping meadow. There are fire pits both indoors and outdoors; the paved access to the barbecue shelter is located directly on the hiking trail network. The Mühlenweg in Schönbach is listed as a parking area for the trail.

Culture

St. Antonius Chapel stands at the intersection of Bahnhofstraße and Schönbacher Straße. The present building dates from 1849. Inside are a wooden altar from the early 18th century, figures of Saint Anthony, Saint Odilia and Saint Bartholomew, as well as a bell dating from 1702.

Restored historic half-timbered houses are part of the village character. For the Maypole tradition, young people prepare, decorate and erect a maypole on May 1. During the Easter clapper tradition, children walk through the village with clappers from Maundy Thursday to Holy Saturday; a collection follows on Easter Sunday.

The annual Whit village festival takes place with a pavilion on the village square, a small tent, a barbecue stand, and coffee and cake. During the St. Martin's procession, a person dressed as St. Martin rides along while children carry torches and lanterns to a St. Martin's bonfire. Holiday guests also take part in St. Martin's evening in Utzerath.

Orientation

The village square has age-appropriate facilities for climbing, swinging, sliding and playing football; a pavilion is equipped with toilets. Utzerath's holiday apartments are considered starting points for hiking and cycling tours in the volcanic Eifel.

Utzerath has road connections to nearby federal highways as well as short connections to the A1 and A48 motorways. Daun, Ulmen and Kelberg are nearby, as are the maars, the Nürburgring and the regions along the Ahr and Moselle rivers.
