From the Schloßberg in Ulrichstein, you can enjoy panoramic views across the low mountain ranges of Hesse. The Vogelsberggarten showcases the flora of the Vogelsberg and botanical rarities, which can be seen in various flower beds. An approximately 800-metre-long paved circular path leads through the garden and is suitable for pushchairs. The flower beds, plants and circular path give the visit a clear botanical focus. Comparing hiking and cycling routes
The Weitblicktour Ulrichstein leads to viewpoints around Ulrichstein. It is an 11.6-kilometre, moderately challenging circular route through deciduous forests and small-scale agricultural landscapes. At 33 kilometres, the Ulrichsteiner Panorama Runde is considerably longer and also moderately challenging. It starts at Lindenplatz and leads via Rudingshain to the Hoherodskopf. The two hiking routes therefore differ both in length and in their course: the Weitblicktour is a loop around Ulrichstein, while the Panorama Runde leads to a named destination.
Cyclists also have a specifically described route connection: from Ulrichstein, the Hessischer Radfernweg R7 runs for approximately 1.5 kilometres in an easterly direction, parallel to the Hessischer Radfernweg R4. Check current route conditions before setting out.
Local history and culture
The Zollhaus in Ulrichstein was built from basalt in 1464. The Museum im Vorwerk focuses on rural culture and agriculture in the Hoher Vogelsberg. Its exhibitions change; topics include hunting, art, customs, heritage conservation and life in rural areas. Other attractions in the wider Vogelsberg travel destination offer different experiences: the treetop walk is 500 metres long in total and features suspension bridges. At the Hoherodskopf climbing forest, visitors climb from tree to tree under the guidance of trained staff. The GipfelTour Schotten covers 14 kilometres, taking hikers over four peaks in the Oberwald and through species-rich mountain meadows and varied woodland with distinctive basalt formations. The regional itinerary thus encompasses not only geology and culture, but also trails and activities in forested and mountainous terrain.
