Culture and History
In Crainfeld, a locality within the municipality of Grebenhain, the Edelhof has been preserved, an elaborately decorated half-timbered house dating from 1685.
The municipality also includes the Teufelsmühle in Ilbeshausen, also known as Hansenmühle, a half-timbered mill built in 1691. Together with the Edelhof, the Teufelsmühle is considered one of the remarkable half-timbered buildings in Upper Hesse.
Historically, Crainfeld stood at the intersection of two medieval trade routes, including routes toward Frankfurt.
Crainfeld is also home to the municipality's largest church building; the locality continues to be the seat of a Protestant parish.
