Compare circular trails by length and character

The 10-kilometre Klima-Terrain-Weg (Climate and Terrain Trail) starts and ends at the Steinwaldhalle. It connects the town’s cultural attractions with panoramic views. At 10 kilometres, it is significantly longer than the three- and four-kilometre circular trails. Check current trail conditions locally before setting out.

The “Ausblicke und Bankerl” (Views and Benches) loop is four kilometres long. Two reading benches offer lovely views of Friedenfels; sunny stretches and quiet spots shape the route. The Landschaftskundlicher Wanderweg (Landscape Hiking Trail) around Friedenfels is the same length. Its theme is the four elements: fire, water, air and earth. There is a picnic area along the way, and the start and finish are also at the Steinwaldhalle.

The blue “Adelsfriedhof” (Noblemen’s Cemetery) circular trail is three kilometres long and starts and ends at the village shop. This short evening walk follows quiet paths and offers an unobstructed view towards the sunset. The routes therefore differ clearly in length: three, four or ten kilometres. The two four-kilometre loops are the same length, but differ in their stops and themes: views and reading benches on one, the four elements and a picnic area on the other.

Local features and fishing culture

On the second Goldsteig stage, the trail passes a gold-and-blue fish sculpture in Friedenfels. It is one of the “Phantastische Karpfen” (Fantastic Carp), ambassadors for the centuries-old pond-farming tradition in the Land of 1,000 Ponds. The Haferdeckfelsen rock also lies on this Goldsteig stage, rising above a pond. On the same stage, you will encounter both an artistic tribute to pond farming and a striking rock formation.

The Steinwaldhalle is in the town centre, with the Fisch adventure playground next to it. The hall is also the starting and finishing point for the Klima-Terrain-Weg and the Landschaftskundlicher Wanderweg. If you include these trails in your stay, the hall gives you a shared reference point in town. The “Adelsfriedhof” circular trail, by contrast, starts and ends at the village shop.

Culture in the wider destination of Tirschenreuth

In the wider destination of Tirschenreuth, the MuseumsQuartier offers a cultural highlight of its own. In Tirschenreuth, it brings together the Upper Palatinate Fisheries Museum and six other specialised exhibitions in a former monastery. Visitors can explore almost 1,000 years of fishing and fish-farming history and see local fish in four large aquariums. Special exhibitions, talks, readings and concerts are also held regularly. If a particular type of event is important to your plans, check the relevant dates before your visit.

The historic Fischhofbrücke bridge and the Fischhof, the district court, are at the centre of Fischhofpark in Tirschenreuth. The wider destination also has a culinary side: the district of Tirschenreuth is best known for Zoigl, the cultural beer of the Upper Palatinate Forest, and carp from the pond landscapes of the “Land of 1,000 Ponds”. These regional connections complement the local trails and fish motifs in Friedenfels without conflating them with the offerings in Tirschenreuth.
