The documented history of Erbendorf dates back to 1109: at that time, the place was first recorded as “Herbendorf.” In 1205, the name “Herbindorf” appeared.
Altenstadt Castle is located in Erbendorf. In the High Middle Ages, the site was known as “Erbendorf Castle” before the settlement was moved to the “Erbendorfer Hügel” in the 13th century.
