Visitor Information for the Surrounding Area
The unfinished tunnel complex in the Dogger rock of the Houbirg is at serious risk of collapse and is not accessible. Do not plan to enter the complex, and check current local information before visiting.
Motorboats are not permitted on Lake Happurg, and the lake is not an official swimming lake. After dry spells, it is not always completely filled and may have a lower water level. For orientation, there is a large car park shortly beyond the substation on state road ST 2236. As parking conditions can change, check the situation when planning your journey.
Hiking and Leisure Trails
There are designated Nordic walking routes at Lake Happurg. A network of marked hiking trails also runs through the Franconian Alb landscape, including to 612-metre-high Arzberg, which has a lookout tower and lies four kilometres to the west. As trail markings can change, it is advisable to check the route before setting out.
