Waldsee and Trails
Waldsee is 765 metres above sea level and, according to the City of Lindenberg, Germany’s highest moorland swimming lake. The Waldsee recreation area offers opportunities for swimming, jogging, hiking and cycling. This means there are several ways to stay active and relax in one place. You can choose which ones suit your stay and interests.
The Lindenberg Trilogy circular trail runs along Waldsee and ends back at the starting point and welcome area at the German Hat Museum. The named starting point and the route along the lake provide clear directions for this walk. Another perspective on the area is offered by the “Around Lindenberg” hiking trail: it passes the paths at the level of the Bergfriedhof cemetery, from where you can enjoy a view of the Nagelfluhkette ridge. The two trail descriptions offer different points of reference in Lindenberg.
Hat Museum and Observation Tower
The German Hat Museum is located in the former Ottmar Reich hat factory. Public guided tours of the permanent exhibition take place on the first Sunday of every month at 3 p.m. If you plan to make a tour part of your itinerary, check with the museum for the latest details. This lets you plan your visit around the stated time rather than separately from the tour.
The Nadenberg observation tower also offers a cultural connection to the city’s history: it houses a small exhibition of pictures about the tower’s history. The city also calls the tower, built in 1911, “Siebenländerblick.” This gives you a choice between learning about hatmaking and visiting an exhibition on the history of the tower.
Weekly Market and Cityscape
The Lindenberg weekly market, featuring fresh and local products, takes place every Saturday morning in the town square by the town hall. If you’d like to include a visit to the market, Saturday morning is the time indicated for it. Before your visit, check whether the market is taking place as stated.
The St. Peter and Paul parish church is a landmark in the cityscape. It is considered a symbol of Lindenberg and, with its imposing domed towers, shapes the cityscape. The old cemetery by St. Aurelius Church is now a cemetery park, described as a small oasis with a rich history in the heart of the city. The church and cemetery park offer two different points of interest if you’d like to explore Lindenberg’s architectural and historical character.
Swimming at the Indoor Pool
The Lindenberg indoor pool also offers a 25-metre swimming pool with five lanes, a non-swimmer pool and a children’s area. This means it has both a lap pool and other pool areas. If you plan to visit the indoor pool, check its current operating status beforehand. Your plans will therefore depend on the latest operating details.
