History and Cultural Heritage
Auerbach was granted town status in 1314, became the capital of New Bohemia in 1373, and had its own mint around 1390. Iron ore mining is also part of the town’s history: iron ore was mined in Auerbach and its surrounding area for centuries, with mining continuing until 1987.
