History and Culture
Schnaittenbach was first documented in 1271. The town hall dates from the late 17th century and was extended in 1817 and 1932. Kaolin mining is also part of the town’s history: The Hirschau-Schnaittenbach kaolin district is considered Germany’s largest kaolin area, and kaolin has been mined in Schnaittenbach since 1833.
