The Belchen Black Forest region has around 200 kilometres of marked hiking trails and also offers mountain biking, e-bike, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing routes. In Schönenberg itself, there are mountain bike routes on both wide forest roads and narrow trails. There is also a small children's playground in Entenschwand, a village belonging to the municipality.

There is no direct car access from Schönenberg to the Belchen. The driving route from Schönenberg to the Belchen cable car station leads via Schönau and Aitern. The Belchen gondola lift provides access towards the summit; the view extends across the Black Forest mountains to the Swiss Jura and the Vosges in France. The Upper Belchen themed circular trail provides information about the mountain's flora and fauna.

Nature

Local farms and a landscape conservation association maintain an open cultural landscape with steep grazing slopes, sunny hillsides and hilltops. Agricultural land and diverse woodland areas characterise the landscape around Schönenberg; some of these areas are located in a nature reserve or an FFH area.
