Landscape and Trails

Wieden lies in a side valley between the Black Forest peaks of Feldberg and Belchen. At the foot of Belchen, there is an extensive network of hiking trails. The town lies directly on the Westweg; the 11th stage of its western variant leads from Wiedener Eck via Belchen towards Kandern. The Belchensteig circular trail begins at Wiedener Eck.

The hiking options include the Kneipp hiking circuit and the themed trails “Mining in the Wiedner Valley” and “The Church Path from Wieden to Schönau”. Wieden also offers mountain biking routes that combine wide forest roads with narrow trails.

Nature

The Wiedener Weidberge protected area lies in the core zone of the Feldberg-Belchen-Upper Wiesental nature conservation project. There is a circular trail in the area that takes approximately one hour. The Wiedener Weidberge are characterised by a cultivated landscape and high biodiversity. Wieden lies within the Southern Black Forest Nature Park and the Black Forest Biosphere Area.

Culture and History

The Allerheiligen Church stands in the centre of Wieden; regular church services are held there.

At the Finstergrund visitor mine, visitors travel underground on the “Zügli” mine railway. After approximately 900 metres, the route through the mine reaches the ore and mineral tunnel; the visitor mine offers guided tours underground. Mining in the Upper Wiesental dates back to the 13th century. At Finstergrund, silver and lead were initially sought, followed by the mining of fluorspar from 1920 to 1974.
