Culture and History

The town’s historic high altar dates from 1520 and is associated with the heyday of silver mining. Schönau is home to the Wiesental Minster, which is considered the largest church in the Lörrach district.

The Church of the Assumption of Mary was built between 1905 and 1907 in the Neo-Gothic style; its tower is approximately 90 meters high. The Klösterle, which houses the local history museum, was probably built around 1780.

A tour of Schönau’s historic buildings and sites is recommended. Visitors can climb the church tower together with the mayor and see Schönau from above.
