Montcel: Hotels and Accommodation

Porte de Crolles has been one of three access points to the ski area since 1991; the other two are located in La Féclaz and Saint-François-de-Sales. The winter activities in Crolles also include the Foyer nordique du Revard Crolles, a cross-country skiing centre.

Winter

The route to the Croix des Bergers is a very easy 3.6-kilometre round trip lasting approximately two and a half hours. It begins and ends at the Crolles car park in Montcel. The trail passes through forests and alpine meadows, as well as part of the protected Tourbière des Creusates wetland, which is designated as a Natura 2000 site. Information panels along the Tourbière des Creusates provide information about this wetland.

The Les crêtes du Revard circular hike passes through Montcel, is 9.3 kilometres long and has a moderate difficulty level; the walking time is approximately four hours. The route leads through alpine meadows, forests and rocky ridges, offering views of Lac du Bourget, Aix-les-Bains, Dauphiné, the Jura and Mont Blanc. The VTT Bois Brulé mountain biking route also passes through Montcel.

Nature

Montcel has been part of the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park since 1995. The eastern part of the municipality on the slopes of Mont Revard consists mainly of forests and alpine meadows. At Revard, 350 hectares belong to Montcel, including 100 hectares of alpine meadows.

Culture

The Saint-Georges parish church in Montcel was founded as a rural chapel by the religious members of the Saint-Robert priory and presumably became a parish church at the end of the 13th century. It was rebuilt between 1844 and 1848.

The Chapelle Saint Robert was consecrated on 20 February 1871 by Cardinal Billiet, Archbishop of Chambéry. As early as 1867, the residents of Montcel had decided to build the chapel near the presumed former site of the Saint Robert priory. During its renovation in 1989, the main façade, made almost entirely of molasse, and the cornerstones of the bell tower were restored to prominence. The stained-glass windows were created by the glass artist Marie Pierre Delbecque.

Culinary delights

L'Epicafé combines a grocery shop and a café offering regional products, bread, aperitifs, coffee and tea, as well as an impressive view.

GAEC de La Cluse produces farmhouse cheese and sells Tome des Bauges and Revard cheeses, including le Crémeuh. In winter, the farm welcomes visitors to its valley farm in Montcel. Through FACIM, GAEC de La Cluse also offers tours of the farm and its animals; registration with the Féclaz tourist office is required.
