Nature

The Villard-sur-Doron arboretum was established in 1991 and features around 80 species of trees and shrubs adapted to mountain conditions. It is freely accessible all year round and is also accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Pierre in Villard-sur-Doron dates from the 18th century and features a Baroque interior as well as a sundial. The church also contains a polychrome and gilded wooden Poutre de Gloire with a Calvary scene: depicted are Christ on the cross, the Virgin Mary, John the Evangelist and five angels catching the blood from the wounds.

The Sentier des Granges is a walking route between hamlets around the village of Villard-sur-Doron. It follows old paths that were once used to connect the chalets and passes traditional crosses and village basins associated with former rural life.

Trails

Le Charvin is a marked, easy 2.4-kilometre circular route starting from Villard-sur-Doron, with 150 metres of ascent and descent respectively. The average duration is one hour; access is free and the route is open all year round.

The very easy Plaine de Villard circular route is 15 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 409 metres, follows a balcony trail towards Queige and returns along the left bank of the Doron and via small forest roads.
