Nature and trails
Several trails provide access to the landscape around Bernex. The hike Boucle du lac de la Case d'Oche starts at the de la Fétiuère car park in the municipality of Bernex and leads to two mountain lakes. The Circuit des chapelles is an easy, freely accessible hiking trail through Bernex's religious heritage.
The family-friendly and somewhat sporty hike Tour du Mont Bénand leads through meadows and villages. Along the way, there are views of the Mémises, Mont César, Dent d'Oche and Lac Léman. The circular trail Chalets en alpage offers insights into life on Bernex's alpine pastures. The buildings in Malpasset, La Tailla, Le Tirou and La Bonne Eau have changed little since they were built around 100 years ago. Marmots visit Lac de la Case.
Culture and history
The Église Saint-Ours in Bernex was built between 1848 and 1851 in a purely Italian style of the 1850s, reminiscent of Tuscan basilicas. The history of the village also includes the nickname “Bourla-Kam”, meaning “camp burner”: after the Waldensians looted the church and the presbytery, the inhabitants of Bernex set their camp on fire and thereby acquired this name.
Local character
The Distillerie de la Dent d'Oche maintains a tradition of travelling distillers that has existed for 100 years and spans four generations. Selected fruits are distilled using an old distillation method. By appointment, the distillery offers guided tours explaining the individual steps involved in producing its fruit specialities.
The Ranch équestre de Bernex offers horse or pony rides all year round, as well as guided pony walks for younger children; reservations are required.
