At an altitude of over 1,500 metres, the high-altitude area of Réotier offers opportunities for ski touring and snowshoeing from November to May.

Winter

The starting point for most of Réotier’s winter routes is at an altitude of 1,400 metres at the entrance to the Plateau de Truchet. Winter route no. 1, “Plein hiver”, to the information board starts at Saint-Michel Church, involves 312 metres of ascent and descent, and takes two and a half hours.

Nature

The Fontaine Pétrifiante de Réotier is a geological natural phenomenon in which mineral water creates spectacular limestone formations. The Fontaine Pétrifiante is located in a Natura 2000 area, a sensitive natural area and the accession zone of Écrins National Park.

Hiking and Cycling

The hike to Tête de Vautisse is classified as difficult, takes five hours for the ascent and descent, and involves 764 metres of elevation gain. In clear weather, the summit of Tête de Vautisse offers views of Viso to the east, Mont Blanc to the north and Ventoux to the south-west.

Three mountain bike trails run through Réotier: L’Aubreau, Le tour de la Durance and Le vignoble.

Culture

The Notre Dame des Neiges Chapel was rebuilt in the 18th century and consecrated in August 1759. The nave of Saint-Michel Church was renovated in the 16th century and features three vaults with geometrically profiled capitals, arranged in a style typical of the 18th century.

The Notre Dame des Neiges Chapel in the hamlet of Les Casses was probably built after 1716 and features Renaissance elements on the door and windows.

Chorjo is a local carnival tradition celebrated every year in Réotier around Shrove Tuesday. The residents make a straw figure, dress it in used clothing and burn it on a pyre on the day of the festival.
