Nature

Moulinet is located in the Parc national du Mercantour. The upper Bévèra Valley runs through the town from north to south. The area is mountainous and features a wide valley basin in the center, carved out by tributary streams; the municipality covers 4,107 hectares.

Hiking

The Sentier des aromates begins at the Moulinet football pitch and leads along the Saint-Louis track to the Peïra-Cava bridge. The trail passes close to the Chapelle Saint-Michel and offers views of the Authion mountain ranges. The chapel is estimated to date from the late 11th to the 13th century and is located on a hiking loop near Moulinet.

Culture

Construction of the Camps de Cabanes Vieilles began in 1889; extensions followed in 1905 and 1912. The remains of 15 masonry buildings are visible in the camp. In summer, it can be visited free of charge in good weather.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Menour originally dates back to the 11th century. It remains a pilgrimage site for the residents of Moulinet; mass is celebrated there three times a year – on Easter Monday, Whit Monday and September 8. The chapel can be reached via a monumental staircase. Its interior is closed to visitors, but can be opened on request by the Moulinet municipal administration.

Cuisine

Boussotou is a large ravioli filled with white pumpkin from Moulinet. Pissare is a tourte made from salted, coarsely grated pumpkin and remains part of family and traditional celebrations.
