La Cabanasse: Hotels and Accommodation

Several signposted trails begin in La Cabanasse or pass through the village. PR 4 – Du train jaune à la citadelle is a signposted hiking trail that begins at the Train Jaune station in La Cabanasse and leads to the Tour d’Ovanca, described as the ruins of a watchtower. Mont-Louis-la-Cabanasse station has eight bicycle racks and a car park.

Hiking

The GR10 passes through La Cabanasse as part of the Grande Traversée des Pyrénées. La Cabanasse is also listed as the starting and finishing point of the GRP Tour de Cerdagne long-distance hiking trail. Hiking route PR 13 follows the route of the procession of the Virgin of La Cabanasse to Col de La Perche, which takes place every year on 15 August.

PR 14 – Train Jaune bien-être leads to the hot springs of St Thomas; the route returns to La Cabanasse via Fontpédrouse and the Train Jaune station.

Cycling and Surroundings

The VTT-13 route partly runs as a balcony route through the three villages of La Cabanasse, Saint-Pierre-dels-Forcats and Mont-Louis in Haut Conflent. In the wider regional area, the Tour de Cerdagne is described as a three-day, 47-kilometre route between the Train Jaune stations in Bourg-Madame and Col de La Perche.

Culture

The Église de l’Assomption in La Cabanasse contains a depiction of the Virgin and Child dating from 1557, as well as six statues of saints from the 17th century. The church was built in 1876, completed in 1897 and renovated in 2019.

History

The hamlet of Hameau du Moulin du Roi in La Cabanasse supplied the soldiers of Mont-Louis with flour during Vauban’s time. The architecture of the Hameau du Moulin du Roi hamlet has been preserved. Historically, the Hameau des Moulins hamlet consisted of a wool spinning mill and an agricultural mill. The arrival of the Train Jaune in 1910 contributed to the development of La Cabanasse.
