In winter, the D13 Bis VI departmental road from Willer-sur-Thur is the only access to the ski area on the Grand Ballon. From Willer-sur-Thur, the Route des Crêtes also provides direct access to the Hautes Vosges.

Nature and Trails
A dense network of hiking trails in Willer-sur-Thur leads to forest huts. The Oberfeld discovery trail offers the opportunity to observe the fauna and flora of the Vosges. There is a fishing stretch on the Thur where the World Fly Fishing Championship was held in 2007.
The Château du Friedberg, the Château d'Engelbourg ruins and the Château de Freundstein ruins are located in the vicinity of Willer-sur-Thur. The mountains Kuppen, Erzenbachkopf, Grumbachkopf and Becherkopf are also nearby. The Château du Herrenfluh ruins are located in the surrounding area of Willer-sur-Thur.
Culture and History
Willer-sur-Thur was first mentioned in 1191 and was historically connected with Murbach Abbey. In the 18th century, the village experienced industrial growth following the establishment of a forge and subsequently the textile industry.
The Saint-Nicolas Chapel in Willer-sur-Thur was rebuilt in 1952 after the former chapel was shelled by French tanks during the liberation of Willer-sur-Thur on December 8, 1944. A recovered statue of Christ was restored and returned to the chapel after the rebuilding.
