Nature and Trails
The Rimbach, a tributary of the Lauch, is fed in its upper course by numerous springs that rise on the slopes of the Sudel, Firstacker and Grand Ballon.
The Rimbach–Ebeneck hiking trail is 5.6 km long, takes around two hours and has an elevation difference of 312 m. From the summit, the Rimbach–Ebeneck circular trail offers a beautiful view over the Alsatian plain.
The Rimbach–Judenhut circular trail is a moderately difficult hiking or snowshoe route covering 6.1 km, with a walking time of around two hours and 415 m of ascent and 415 m of descent. Along the way, there is a view of Guebwiller and its vineyards; the route also passes the Munsteraeckerle, where tables, benches and a small hut are available.
A challenging two-day hike starting at the Aigle d’Or leads to the ruins of Château du Freundstein and Hartmannswillerkopf.
Culture and History
Rimbach-près-Guebwiller is first mentioned in a document from 1291 under the name Rinpach. In the 18th century, the local economy was essentially based on glassmaking and the use of the forest.
The Église paroissiale de L'Epiphanie was rebuilt from 1866 to 1869 according to plans by Auguste Hartmann from Colmar; the bell tower was added in 1897 and extensively restored in 1928. The Église de l'Epiphanie is open every day and houses a well-preserved Opus 31 organ by Georges Schwenkedel.
The sculpture group “Saint Valentin guérissant un épileptique” dates from the 16th century and has been classified as an object since 23 July 1976. An exploration adit opening and traces of prospecting were discovered on the slopes of the Ebeneck, providing evidence of ore mining in the valley as early as the 16th century.
Culinary Delights
The Ferme-Auberge de la Glashütte is located on the outskirts of Rimbach-près-Guebwiller at the foot of the Grand Ballon and is an ideal starting point for hiking trails. It serves traditional cuisine and Alsatian specialities, including marcaire meals, game dishes, Bouchée à la reine and products from its own farm.
