Marked hiking and cycling routes connect Loučovice with Lipno nad Vltavou, Vyšší Brod, and the Austrian border area. The cross-border Dürnau cycling crossing is a popular destination.

Nature

The cadastral area of Loučovice contains the Vyšebrodsko Nature Park, the Medvědí hora Nature Monument, the Čertova stěna–Luč National Nature Reserve, and the Rašeliniště Kapličky protected area. In the Čertova stěna–Luč area, the Vltava flows through a natural riverbed filled with large granite blocks, known as Čertovy proudy.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint Procopius is located in Loučovice on the left bank of the Vltava. The Chapel of Saint Procopius, also known as the Chapel of Saint Jodocus, in Loučovice is said to have been founded in 1361 by Jošt (?) of Rosenberg and rebuilt in the 16th century. It is listed as a cultural monument in the Czech heritage register.

The Church of Saint Ulrich stands in Loučovice on the right bank of the Vltava. It was built in the 1480s on the site of an earlier Chapel of Saint Theobald, which Ulrich of Rosenberg had founded in 1361. It burned down in the 16th century and was restored in 1640–1644.

Industry and transport

The paper mill in Loučovice was founded by Arnošt Porák in the 1880s. Around the turn of the 20th century, it employed more than 1,000 people. The railway line from Certlov to Lipno was built in 1909–1911 and was the second electrified railway line in Bohemia.

Water

The first annual water slalom on Čertovy proudy took place on Sunday, September 26, 1954; the race was organized by the water sports group TJ Tatran Loučovice.
