Čaková is a mountain municipality stretching for five kilometers along the valley of the Čakovský potok and reaching almost to the foot of the 628-meter-high Chlum.

Geographical location

A local mountain road branches off the road from Krnov to Bruntál and continues toward Krasov.

History and townscape

The first written mention of Čaková dates back to 1498. The municipality has preserved the character of a foothill village; agriculture was the inhabitants’ main occupation. The wooden, prismatic bell tower is an example of folk architecture from 1754 and also the only protected monument in the municipality of Čaková.

Nature and activities

Cycle route No. 6161 runs from Lesní mlýn via Nové Heřminovy to Čaková. Trout and grayling are caught in the Čakovka stream. The U jelena pond in Krásné údolí is used for fishing and recreation. The hilly, forested surroundings of Čaková offer good conditions for picking mushrooms, raspberries, and blackberries.
