Winter and Trails
The 7.5 km-long educational trail “Jilemnice známá neznámá” leads through Jilemnice and the surrounding area to the Chapel of Saint Isidore. Its notional starting point is Masarykovo Square. The marked circular cycling route “Jilemnickem křížem krážem” is designated for cyclists: the 24 km-long route runs via Kozinec, Mříčná, Martinice, Horní Branná and Hrabačov before returning to the centre of Jilemnice.
Town History and Architecture
Masarykovo Square preserves a medieval layout and has formed the heart of the town for centuries. Its fountain is an important landmark of the square and a valuable technical monument. The Baroque Church of Saint Lawrence was built between 1729 and 1736 and preserves a stylistically unified Baroque interior. Zvědavá ulička is considered a unique example of old suburban architecture and was built for the most part after the town fire of 1788.
Museum and the History of Winter Sports
The Krkonoše Museum displays Jáchym Metelka’s nativity scene from 1883–1913. Its original mechanism moves 142 figures in 350 types of movement and includes sound effects. The “White Track” exhibition presents the development of skiing in the Czech lands up to 1938. In addition, the museum presents the history of the western Krkonoše region from the great colonisation in the 13th century through the 20th century and highlights Jilemnice as a natural centre of trade and crafts.
Castle and Park
Jilemnice Castle was built in the second half of the 16th century on the site of an older Waldstein fortress and still preserves its Renaissance core. The listed castle has housed exhibitions of the Krkonoše Museum since 1953. Jilemnice Castle Park covers approximately 4 hectares and contains numerous valuable trees and shrubs.
