Culture and History
The old forge in Hořejší Vrchlabi is a protected national monument and a valuable example of traditional architecture in the Krkonoše Mountains. The former forge is a two-storey building, partly constructed using log-building techniques, with a gallery running around part of the log-built living room. At the same time, it is a timber house built on a masonry ground floor.
Opposite the forge stands the Baroque Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, built in 1709. It has been a protected national monument since 1958. Its imposing octagonal dome is crowned by a lantern with wooden columns.
A remnant of the old Silesian Stezke through the Krkonoše Mountains, known as “Kamenná cesta”, has also survived from Hořejší Vrchlabi to the present day.
