Culture and History

Open-Air Museum

The Vysoký Chlumec Open-Air Museum is gradually expanding its grounds in the stream valley: residential, agricultural, technical and smaller religious buildings are being relocated to the natural setting one by one. Indoor exhibitions illustrate rural living and farming. The museum comprises a total of 24 buildings, 14 of which can be visited through indoor or special exhibitions.

Visitors can choose between two options: a self-guided tour and a guided tour. The programme includes the traditional Masopust celebration every year. Full-day programmes entitled “Den řemesel” are also held.

Brewing

The brewing exhibition in Vysoký Chlumec documents that the first written references to beer brewing there date back to 1466. On display are old beer bottles, cooperage, labels, beer mugs and beer mats. Visits to the exhibition can be arranged in advance through the local information centre.
