Giez Vd lies between the lake and the Jura, near Yverdon-les-Bains. The main agricultural settlement is grouped around its church and castle on a rise above the Grandsonnet.
Culture and History
The Reformed Church of Giez stands on a walled esplanade. Its bell tower and choir partly date back to the 12th century. The church was remodeled in the 15th and 16th centuries before being restored between 1902 and 1905.
Giez Castle is documented from 1480 onward. It includes a square tower from the 15th century and a stair tower from the early 16th century. A hexagonal stair tower dating from 1635 stands beside the Maison des Tourelles.
Remains of a Gallo-Roman villa were discovered northeast of the Maison des Tourelles. Burgundian graves indicate that the region around Giez was inhabited during the Early Middle Ages. The Church of Saint John the Baptist was built at the beginning of the 12th century and served Grandson as a parish church until 1438. The former Château Folliet had an entrance tower and was converted into a country house with half-hipped roofs in 1818.
Nature and Regional Surroundings
The Grandsonnet is lined by a wooded strip. The Jura vaudois Regional Nature Park extends across the Nord vaudois region. It offers a 523-kilometre network of hiking trails as well as routes connected to public transport.

Practical Information
Giez lies on a minor road connecting Grandson and Vuitebœuf at the foot of the Jura. Giez Refuge is located at the edge of the forest. It accommodates up to 45 people indoors; outdoor seating is also available.
The refuge has an equipped kitchen, hot water, toilets, and heating. There is also a barbecue and two pétanque courts overlooking the lake.
