Winter sports

In the French-Swiss Sainte-Croix / Les Rasses area, there are more than 100 kilometres of marked cross-country ski trails. The Les Rasses Nordic Centre has 65 kilometres of trails groomed for two cross-country skiing styles.

Geographical location

The Yverdon–Sainte-Croix railway line, opened in 1893, provides access from the plain to the Balcon du Jura. It stretches from L’Auberson via Sainte-Croix and Bullet to Mauborget.

The Grand’Vy observation tower is located 100 metres from the entrance to the village of Bullet in the direction of Les Cluds. Its balcony platform is nine metres high and offers a panorama stretching for more than 250 kilometres across the Alps and the plain. The Grand’Vy Tower is considered to be open year-round; its balcony platform is accessible from spring to autumn.

Culture and history

The summit of the Chasseron in the municipality of Bullet is considered an ancient place of worship known since the 18th century. The sanctuary on the Chasseron was visited from Celtic times until the end of the Roman era. The MuMAPS Museum in Sainte-Croix presents the region’s heritage of mechanical arts and the history of the Balcon du Jura.

Cycling

The Chasseron Bike Route is marked with the SuisseMobile number 987 and leads by mountain bike on a circular tour to the summit of the Chasseron. In the summit area, the route offers views over the Swiss Plateau, Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Geneva and the Alps for more than 250 kilometres.

The mountain inns in Nord vaudois serve cheese fondue, charcuterie platters and homemade desserts. They also serve dishes based on local produce.
