Leuk town is located in the Swiss Rhône Valley on the northern bank of the river, east of the confluence of the Dala and Rotten rivers. Leuk is the administrative center of the Leuk District in the German-speaking part of the Swiss canton of Valais. History

Leuk was a center of the Reformation in Valais. The municipality was first documented in 515 under the name villa de Leuca and had already been settled in pre-Roman times.

Leuk has a historical relationship with the Gemmi Pass, access to which the town controlled.
