Leuk combines a history dating back to pre-Roman times with its historical connection to the Gemmi Pass. The village was first mentioned in 515 as villa de Leuca. The Gemmi Pass gave Leuk significance as early as Roman times.

Geographical location
In the wider regional area, Leuk and Leukerbad are considered tourist destinations; their common denominator is the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park. Leuk Tourism is an independent association connected to the Upper Valais region. Zènèvrec is located in the surrounding area of Leuk. Leuk’s elevation is listed as 731 metres.
Nature
The Gorwetschgrat ridge is located in the immediate vicinity of Leuk. The surrounding area also includes the Aiguilles du Meiden, the Ergischhorn and Le Toûno. In the nearby area, north of Leuk in the direction of the Gemmi Pass, are the thermal baths of Leukerbad.
Wine and hiking
The Chemin du Vignoble connects the Leuk/Loèche area with the discovery of vineyards and tastings. One section runs from St-Léonard to Loèche/La Souste and is approximately 25 km long.
The grapes in the vineyards along the route ripen in August and September.
