Geographical Location

The area of Bevaix includes a narrow, partly marshy section of the northwestern shore of Lake Neuchâtel lined with reeds. From there, the land rises towards the plain of Bevaix and the wooded Forêt de Bevaix.

Nature and Landscape

The former municipality included part of the northwestern lakeshore around Pointe du Grain. The narrow strip of shore there is partly marshy and covered with reeds. Westwards, the former municipal area extended across the densely wooded slope of the Forêt de Bevaix to the Montagne de Boudry in the foremost Jura range; in the further former territory, this slope rises through the foothills of the Jura to the Montagne de Boudry.

The highest point of the former municipal area was 1,335 metres above sea level. According to the 1997 land-use figures, 48 percent of the former municipal area consisted of forest and woodland, while 38 percent consisted of agricultural land.

Paths and History

A moderately difficult 12.1-kilometre forest hike leads through the Forêt de Bevaix. The route runs through the woodland and descends from the Montagne de Boudry towards the plain. Bevaix railway station is only a few minutes from the endpoint of this forest route.

A multi-day Cluny route reaches Bevaix from St-Aubin and continues from Bevaix along the lakeshore to Corcelles-Cormondrèche, before passing near the Areuse and Boudry. On the section near Bevaix, the route passes the former La Lance Charterhouse before reaching the locality from St-Aubin.
