Geographical Location
Luven is a locality in the municipality of Ilanz/Glion in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Until the end of 2013, Luven was an independent political municipality. The former municipal area lay between 768 and 1,604 meters above sea level and extended into the natural region of Piz Mundaun and Obersaxen.
Nature and Landscape
The settlement area includes extensive tracts of land: 345 hectares are usable for agriculture, while a further 293 hectares consist of forest and wooded areas. Cauma, the northern summit of Piz Riein, Pala da Tgiern, and Lägerbiel are located in the surroundings of Luven.
History and Culture
Historical evidence places settlement in the Luven region during the Bronze Age, approximately between 1800 and 800 BC. A bronze belt buckle and skeletal remains found in 1887 are regarded as evidence. The belt buckle is being examined at the Rhaetian Museum in Chur.
Paspels Castle and Rietberg Castle are located in the wider regional surroundings of Luven.
