Andiast is a settlement in the municipality of Breil/Brigels in the Swiss canton of Graubünden and lies at approximately 1,178 meters above sea level. The village occupies an exposed hillside location; the houses in the village center line the main road.

Nature

Activities

Andiast is considered a small winter sports resort and is part of the Breil/Brigels–Waltensburg/Vuorz–Andiast ski and hiking area. From the edge of the village, a narrow paved road leads on foot and by car toward the reservoir and the neighboring village of Panix.

In the Andiast area, cycling and mountain biking are among the activities; these include gravel routes such as Brigels Bella Vista and trails around Lag da Breil / Brigels.

Culture

Archaeological evidence indicates that the mountainous area around Andiast was inhabited in the later Iron Age. The first documented mention of a settlement in the Andiast area dates from 765 and is found in the will of Bishop Tello.

In the neighboring village of Waltensburg are castle ruins and the Waltensburger Meister & Arcun ds tradiziun Museum, which presents frescoes and local traditions. Paspels Castle lies in the wider regional surroundings of Andiast. Rietberg Castle is also located in this wider regional area.

Geographical Setting

Public transportation to Andiast operates via PostBus along the serpentine road from Waltensburg-Station over the Waltensburg/Vuorz plateau. The village's tourism development followed a period when Andiast was a small village with little commercial activity; tourism later brought a certain degree of growth.
