Laax: Winter Sports, Water and Culture

The LAAX winter sports area stretches from 1,100 m above sea level to 3,018 m above sea level on the Vorab Glacier. It has 216 kilometres of slopes and 30 lifts. Five snowparks and a Pro Kicker Line are also part of the offering. Laax Murschetg is connected to Crap Sogn Gion by the large aerial cableway.

Water and Paths

A walking path around 1.4 km long leads around Lake Laax in Laax Dorf. The route is also easy to navigate with a pushchair or in a wheelchair. During the season in July and August, the Marenda kiosk at Lake Laax rents out pedal boats and stand-up paddles or stand-up paddleboards.

Lake Laax offers leisure activities on and beside the water in summer and winter. On warm days, its shore provides a natural place to play and swim; fishing is permitted in the lake.

Aua Grava offers year-round water-based fun for families, as well as swimming, wellness and fitness facilities under one roof.

Culture and History

The Laax local museum, formerly the village dairy, opened in 1980. It is located in a 19th-century building that served as the village dairy until 1969. The museum presents the facilities and lifestyle of a farming family 150 years ago; the slide shows “Laax Yesterday and Today” and “Impressions from the Alpine Arena” are also available. History and customs from Laax are also among the museum’s themes.

The present-day Baroque parish church of Baselgia parochiala Laax was built between 1675 and 1678. On 17 October 1677, it was consecrated to the Holy Trinity, the Madonna, and Saints Gallus and Othmar. Well-preserved patrician houses in Laax bear witness to the prosperity of its residents.

The Senda Cultura Laax leads around the village and explains objects of particular significance with information boards. CULARTA combines a studio house with an exhibition space and offers public workshops and exhibitions. The traditional village market takes place in July. The traditional celebration on 1 August includes a large fireworks display.

The light sculptures extend through the village districts of the municipality of Laax. Each work of art is based on a Laax story that is staged at its place of origin.

Nature and Mountains

The high-mountain landscapes of LAAX, including the Segnesboden, lie at elevations of up to 3,000 m above sea level and can be reached on foot or by mountain railway. The famous Martinsloch on the Segnesboden is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Uaul Casti platform presents plants and trees in the Laax forest; it also explains changes in the character of the forest over just a few kilometres.

Various routes are available for cycling: The Segnes Trail is a 3.7 km technical enduro singletrack of medium difficulty with 486 m of elevation change. At 3.7 km, it is shorter than the 7 km Never End Trail, a technically demanding freeride route from Crap Sogn Gion to Laax.

Leisure

The 1.56 km-long “Senda dil Dragun” treetop trail connects the districts of Laax Murschetg and Laax Dorf. It includes a slide, five adventure areas, four platforms with seating and five marble-run installations. The Ninja Park is located in Laax Murschetg below the access bridge to the treetop trail.

The rocksresort Park offers a miniramp, an Urban Surfwave and a Snakerun for skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes. The rocks Park Tower features a 30-metre-high vertical drop and a 73-metre-long spiral slide.

The “Sper il lag” audio walk guides visitors around Lag Grond, Lake Laax, using a voice on their own phone and headphones. The Laax-Falera lantern trail is a lit winter hiking trail connecting Laax with Falera.
