Wiedlisbach was founded around 1240 and was granted town rights, presumably because of its strategically important location on the north–south trade routes.

When planning your stay in Wiedlisbach, you will want to find a hotel.

History

Wiedlisbach has a well-preserved medieval town center. The municipality received the Henri-Louis-Wakker Prize in 1974 and an award from the Council of Europe in 1975 for exemplary preservation of its townscape.

Finds from the Bronze Age, Roman period, and early Middle Ages have been recorded in the area around Wiedlisbach. A Roman estate stood approximately 700 meters southeast of the town until at least the 3rd century; a high medieval castle complex is suspected on Walkihügel.

The historic town plan forms a closed rectangle with a main street and a parallel side street. A ring wall encloses this layout; it is approximately nine meters high and 1.7 meters thick.
