Nature
Beatenberg is a sunny terrace high above Lake Thun, offering panoramic views of the peaks of the Bernese Oberland, including the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. A hike in the Beatenberg area offers views of these peaks and Lake Thun.
Hikes on the Niederhorn lead through alpine meadows, heathland and open coniferous forests. Along the hiking trail on the Niederhorn, you may encounter ibex and chamois in many seasons.
At the foot of Beatenberg lie the St. Beatus Caves, with an underground world and fascinating formations.
Experiences
The 6-kilometre Rocky’s Run Trotti-Bike route leads from Vorsass directly to the Beatenberg station; the ride takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
You can collect the fondue backpack experience at the railway counter in Beatenberg. It can be taken to a location of your choice on the Niederhorn, where you can prepare and eat fondue.
History
Beatenberg is first mentioned in ecclesiastical records from 1230. The opening of the road to Interlaken in 1865 marked the town’s transformation into a much-visited spa resort.
Location
Beatenberg can be reached from Interlaken by road in about 15 minutes. The town is around 10 kilometres by road from Interlaken and is well located for excursions to the Lake Thun and Jungfrau regions.
