In the immediate vicinity of Gsteigwiler, between Wilderswil and Gsteigwiler, stands the Church of Gsteig, a historic building that can be visited. Its earliest written mention dates back to 1196; the oldest foundations probably date from the 8th century.
Within the municipality of Gsteigwiler, the Church of Gsteig forms a church ensemble together with the rectory, tithe barn and inn. It has been under federal heritage protection since 1965. Inside, different window shapes and stained-glass paintings display Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles. The furnishings include valuable secco paintings from the 14th to the 17th century, including works by the painter Diebold. These paintings were uncovered and restored during the 1974/75 renovation. A walk across a covered wooden bridge leads there.

Getting around
Gsteigwiler can be reached by car via the Wilderswil exit. From there, the road continues towards Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen and crosses the Lütschine at the turn-off to Gsteigwiler.
In the nearby area, the Breitlauenen–Schynige Platte ticket includes the train journey from Wilderswil to Breitlauenen and the return journey from Schynige Platte to Wilderswil.
