Nacka combines nature areas, historic sites and cultural attractions with a short journey from Stockholm. From central Stockholm, you can reach Nacka by bus from Slussen or by commuter ferry from central Stockholm in 15–20 minutes. When choosing accommodation, it is therefore particularly worth considering whether you want to focus your stay on walks, cultural history, viewpoints or relaxation in green surroundings.

Getting there and orientation

The connection from Slussen is also relevant for visiting the Nacka local history museum. You can reach the museum by taking buses 71, 404 or 443 towards Jarlaberg. From the Jarlaberg stop, continue on foot to Nyckelviken. The museum displays objects used by farmers and crofters in the 19th century. It also presents Nacka’s earliest history and provides information about shoemaking and textile production for personal use. Another historical focus is Nacka ström. The cultural history walk along the watercourse covers witch trials, the industrial society and mill operations. The route is approximately 2.1 kilometres long and takes 1.5 hours. The industrial remains at Nacka ström and Källtorpssjön date back to the 16th century. This makes it possible to combine the walk with a look at Nacka’s earlier industrial history.

Nature areas, trails and viewpoints

The Nyckelviken nature reserve is characterised by extensive stands of old oaks and meadows between densely wooded areas. The farm there has cows, horses, chickens, rabbits, sheep and pigs; visitors can see the animals during the day. Svindersvik is home to one of the oldest surviving summer houses, a well-preserved piece of 18th-century Nacka. Svindersvik’s Brygghuset also has a café serving baked goods and lunch options. Hellasgården is located in the large Nackareservatet recreation area, directly on Stockholm’s south-eastern border with Nacka. The area has hiking trails, illuminated routes and an outdoor gym. There are outdoor bathing opportunities at Källtorpssjön and Söderbysjön. In the Erstavik area, the green, blue and new white trails are maintained by Nacka Municipality. There are also marked paths and minor roads suitable for walking or cycling. Other nature reserves also offer a variety of destinations for a stay. The Tollare nature reserve has many paths and an illuminated route for walking or running. From the summit of Himlaberget, just over 70 metres high, the view extends across Baggensfjärden and the islands beyond. At the lower end of Rudsjön in the Velamsund nature reserve, on the eastern side of the lake, there is a birdwatching tower and an accessible viewing platform.

Military history, art and culture

Tollareställningen on Hjortberget was part of the outer ring of Stockholm’s air defence. It was built during the Second World War and is the best-preserved facility of its kind in the Greater Stockholm area. In Boo, a historical walk leads through the Skogsö nature reserve. This route includes the Skogsömonumentet, which was erected in memory of the Battle of Stäket in 1719. In this battle, Swedish troops defeated a Russian galley fleet. Contemporary culture is represented by Nacka konsthall and Kulturhuset Dieselverkstaden. Nacka konsthall hosts around six exhibitions per year, all with free admission. Kulturhuset Dieselverkstaden offers performing arts, music, visual arts and creative activities. This allows you to shift the focus of your stay between landscapes, regional history and cultural attractions without leaving Nacka as your base. For comparison with another destination, you can also include Älta.
