Unha lies at the foot of Pui de Unha. Located southeast above the Unhòla River, the village lies shortly before its confluence with the Garonne. This mountain and river setting forms the geographical framework for the historic buildings, festival dates and paths that lead through Unha and to the higher part of Gessa. The Via Ferrata de Unha also begins directly in the village and complements the local mountain features with three sections of varying difficulty.

Culture

One of the historic points of reference is Ço de Brastet, a former manor house built in 1580. The building is fortified and has Renaissance windows and a portal. The former function as a manor house, the fortification and the Renaissance elements of the building and entrance are thus brought together in the same structure. The Museo dera Mòla de Unha is located in a small building positioned perpendicular to the flow of the Unhòla on the right bank of the river. The manor house and mill therefore represent different historical points of reference within the village.

Festivals

Unha celebrates its main festival on September 16 in honor of Saint Sebastian. On December 10, Unha celebrates its patronal festival in honor of Saint Eulalia. The dates fall in different months and are each dedicated to a different patron. For a calendar comparison, the main festival and patronal festival can therefore be clearly distinguished from each other.

Routes

The Salardú–Unha–Gessa route leads from Salardú uphill to Unha by road and then continues through Unha along the GR211 to the higher part of Gessa. Along this route, a road section and a marked trail section alternate: the first part reaches Unha from Salardú, while the subsequent GR211 connects the village with Gessa. The place names identify the starting point, passage point and endpoint of the route described.

Mountain Activities

The beginner option on the Via Ferrata de Unha begins in the village of Unha and uses the first section of the route. The beginner section has a very short approach and is suitable for families with children. The moderately difficult Via Ferrata de Unha includes the first and second sections of the route and leads to the Mirador de los Buitres. The advanced Via Ferrata de Unha includes three sections. Its final section is the most exposed and longest, measuring 350 meters.

The three designations indicate different levels within the same Via Ferrata. A comparison therefore places the number of sections, approach, destination and length side by side: the beginner section is limited to the first section, the moderately difficult option reaches the Mirador de los Buitres, and the advanced option includes three sections, including the 350-meter-long final section.

Accommodation in Unha can be assessed on booking pages based on travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions. These details provide an objective framework for different travel periods and stay decisions.

Getting There

From Salardú, the road leads to Bagergue; shortly after setting off, the access road to Unha branches off to the left. The turnoff is therefore located on the road between Salardú and Bagergue and leads into the village at Pui de Unha.
