Rialp preserves a medieval character in its town centre, particularly along Carrer del Mig, where arcades can be found. The town can be explored from three perspectives: townscape and architecture, trails through the natural landscape, and festivals and music.

Culture

The parish church of Mare de Déu de Valldeflors has a single-nave layout and an octagonal bell tower with a pyramidal roof. Every summer, the Associació Rialp Musical brings a varied, high-quality music programme to the stage in Rialp; the parish church of Mare de Déu de Valldeflors serves as the venue.

At Mola de Bellera, the mill machinery has been preserved in good condition. It includes channels, flour distributors, millstones, a lifting crane and a hopper. The church and Mola de Bellera show different sides of the townscape handed down through the generations: sacred architecture with its distinctive tower on the one hand, and the preserved technical equipment of a mill on the other.

Nature

Part of the municipality of Rialp lies within the Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu. The Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu designates the Camí de la Canerilla as a 2.6 km, 45-minute, very easy circular route.

Rialp has an extensive network of traditional trails that are currently being restored and signposted to make hiking easier. The “De poble a poble per la vall d’Àssua” route is a 13.3 km circular route connecting Rialp, Surp, Escàs, Caregue and la Mola de Sall.

The “La volta per la vall del Noguera Pallaresa” route is a 20.1 km circular route that starts and ends in Rialp. For your personal planning, the trails can be easily compared based on their different lengths. The Camí de la Canerilla is described by its short distance and the stated walking time, while the other two routes cover a greater amount of time and space. The sequence of villages on the Àssua route and the route’s start and finish in Rialp also provide different reference points for classifying the circular routes.

Traditions

Rialp has preserved the Rigodons dance; it is performed mainly in Plaça de Dalt during the Festa Major on 15 August and for Sant Cosme i Sant Damià on 26 September.

The carnival celebrations in Rialp begin on Sunday morning with the hanging of the Carnestoltes, continue until Tuesday and end with a large dance. Rialp’s carnival traditions include the Calderada, a communal dish.
