Alongside the Vall de Boí, Espot is one of the two main traditional access points to Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Via Espot, you can reach Estany de Sant Maurici.

Nature and trails

The Espot Valley is known for Estany de Sant Maurici and the rugged peaks of Els Encantats. From the access point near Espot, the National Park offers routes to more than 20 glacial lakes.

The valleys around Espot have numerous well-signposted mountain trails, ranging from flat walking paths to passes and mountain saddles and leading to summits. To the north of Espot, there is a Romanesque bridge over the Escrita River, where several trails begin, including a trail to Estany de Sant Maurici.

For planning purposes, the described trails can be distinguished by their route: flat walking paths, passes and mountain saddles, and summits represent different types of trails. The starting point is also not the same: several trails begin at the Romanesque bridge, while the access point near Espot leads to the National Park routes and glacial lakes. This keeps the trail character, starting point and type of destination as separate details.

Around Espot, there are numerous trails and tracks for mountain bike tours through forests and alpine meadows. Different types of terrain and destinations can be considered separately when planning a day trip.

Winter activities

A guided snowshoe hike from Espot Ski leads to the Creu de l’Eixol viewpoint after an approximately two-hour hike from the Roca chairlift. The activity type and duration are two separate factors when planning the day.

The winter activities include skiing at Espot Esquí and the guided snowshoe hike from Espot Ski as separate activities. The snowshoe tour includes an approximate duration of around two hours and a named destination; for the ski resort, black pine forests and views of mountains over 3,000 metres high are described.

By private car, you can drive from the access point near Espot only as far as the car parks; from there, you continue on foot into the protected area. A year-round 4x4 taxi service takes visitors from Espot to Estany de Sant Maurici and, optionally, to Estany de Ratera or Estany d’Amitges.

A medieval watchtower called Torre dels Moros has been preserved in Espot. Santa Llogaia d’Espot is the parish church of Espot.

The Casa del Parc Nacional in Espot is an interpretation centre dedicated to the conservation of the native flora and fauna. The permanent exhibition “Els tres móns del Parc: la roca, l’aigua i la vida” can be seen at the Casa del Parc in Espot.
