Nature

Aller is characterised by mountain peaks and forests. Las Foces de El Pino is protected as a natural monument. The Santibáñez de la Fuente yew is a natural monument in Aller and stands in the square of the Church of San Juan de Riomiera. The tree is approximately 12 metres tall and has a trunk circumference of 3.4 metres.

The route to the Cascada de Xurbeo waterfall is 2.6 kilometres long, very easy and starts and ends at the Murias car park. It passes through a riverside forest before reaching the waterfall.

The headframe of the Pozo San Fernando is a distinctive element of the industrial heritage and is located next to the recreational area there. From Orillés, the Pozo San Fernando can be reached exclusively on foot via the PR-AS 205 trail in approximately 20 minutes.

The route to the Foces del Río Pino leads to the restored Molino de Peón, a former mill that was used for trout farming. CIVICA has a children’s area where the youngest visitors can transform themselves into archaeologists for a day.

Aller has numerous routes for hiking, cycling, horse riding and driving. The Vía Carisa runs along the high mountain ridges of Aller and Lena. Coto Bello is regarded as a reference point in international cycling and is associated with legendary climbs in the history of the Vuelta a España.

Aller is served by line C8 Baíña–Col.lanzo, with seven railway stations and stops; at Ablaña, there is a connection to commuter line C1.

Regional Cuisine

Panchón is a traditional dessert from Aller made from flour of the spelt variety escanda, lard and sugar. To make Panchón, the round Pancha is wrapped in cabbage leaves, covered with ash and embers, and baked; it is then crumbled and mixed with lard and sugar.
